The article below is continued from Unrequited Love (Part 1): Crushin? on or Crushed by You? Click here if you missed it.
In Part 1, my teenaged self confessed a long-time crush to a friend. Sometimes these situations can blossom into satisfying romantic relationships if both friends are harboring feelings for each other, but if the person who wants more (confessor) admits this to a desired friend who is uninterested (rejector), the two friends must deal with the resulting emotional fallout in their friendship.
The same researchers did a new follow-up study to uncover the specifics of how these friends behaved toward each other after the confessor had been rejected.1?It turns out that particular types of verbal and nonverbal behaviors in the friends? interactions were indeed linked to whether or not the friendship ended.
Thus, would a confessor be left doggedly singing, ?Hopelessly, I'll love you endlessly...but I won't give you up,? like in the Muse song ?Endlessly,? or would a confessor take a more final cue from Garbage?s song ?Cup of Coffee? with ?No, of course we can?t be friends, not while I?m still this obsessed...this is how our story ends???
One can?t force rejectors to change their feelings, just as confessors can?t simply turn off their ill-fated attraction.? For anyone asking ?What do I do now?? we present some helpful tips below.
Five Ways to Save Your Friendship after a Romantic Confession (for both rejectors and confessors):
Additionally, the confessor can avoid talking about how the rejector doesn?t feel the same and accept the rejector?s future romantic partners, while the rejector can show understanding for the confessor?s feelings.
A friendship is more likely to end if:
Let?s say Sam confesses his undeniable attraction to Pat. Pat, who has never had anything beyond platonic feelings for Sam, tries to let him down nicely with, ?I?m sorry, Sam. I like someone else right now, but maybe someday I might feel the same.? Sam is hurt, of course, and can?t help bringing the subject up again and again.? Feeling uncomfortable, Pat begins ignoring Sam?s calls and avoiding events that Sam might attend. Pat even asks their mutual friend, ?Is Sam going to be there? I?ve felt really awkward around him since he told me he liked me.? This tidbit circulates among their group of friends, and Sam feels embarrassed and betrayed when he hears about it. Based on this research, Pat and Sam would have a slim chance of continuing their friendship in the future.
Readers should be aware that the above tips are just suggestions and that results may vary. Individual situations call for individual solutions.
So, what was my crush?s reply as I waited, heart palpitating, for his response? Well, I guess they call it a ?crush? for a reason. Heartbreak is never, ever easy.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ? Fridley residents got some star-power behind them Wednesday night as they continue to look for answers to why their city has such high cancer rates.
Erin Brockovich told city residents in a meeting that she?s concerned about the safety of their soil, air and water. The environmental activist wants to investigate the matter more closely and will start by finding out more about their individual cancer cases.
Fridley?s cancer rate is 7.6 percent higher than the average for the rest of Minnesota. The state blames that on a large number of lung cancer cases caused by smoking.
But some residents (and Brockovich) think there may be more to it.
?It won?t be easy,? Brockovich told the group. ?It won?t happen overnight. We?re not going to misguide you in any way. We?re not angry at anybody. We?re not here to mudsling. We want to work with everybody.?
Julie Roberts played the environmental activist in the film ?Erin Brokovich.? Brockovich pursued legal action against a California utility for allegedly contaminating groundwater, and won.

New research from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley found that a person?s happiness is more closely tied to their standing in their community and how much respect and admiration they receive from their friends, neighbors, and co-workers than it is to how much money they have. Psychological scientist Cameron Anderson set out to examine the relationship between respect, money, admiration, and happiness. And, over the course of four studies which surveyed and followed a diverse sample of participants, Anderson found clear evidence that having influence and social acceptance was more important than accumulated wealth. Having high standing in your local ladder leads to being more integrated into the group?s social fabric, Anderson said. According to Anderson, one reason money doesn?t buy happiness is how quickly people adapt to new levels of income. More here.

ATLANTA (AP) ? Would you go to a drugstore to get tested for AIDS?
Health officials want to know, and they've set up a pilot program to find out.
The $1.2 million program will offer free rapid HIV tests at pharmacies and in-store clinics in 24 cities and rural communities, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Tuesday.
Drugstores now offer blood pressure checks, flu shots and a few other types of health services. Officials are hoping testing for the AIDS virus will become another routine service.
"By bringing HIV testing into pharmacies, we believe we can reach more people by making testing more accessible and reduce the stigma associated with HIV," CDC's Dr. Kevin Fenton said in a statement. He oversees the agency's HIV prevention programs.
The tests are already available at seven places, and the CDC will soon pick 17 more locations.
The HIV test is a swab inside the mouth and takes about 20 minutes for a preliminary result. If the test is positive, customers will be referred to a local health department or other health-care providers for a blood test to confirm the results, counseling and treatment.
When the project ends next summer, CDC officials will analyze what worked well and what didn't, said Paul Weidle, the epidemiologist who is heading up the project.
An estimated 1.1 million Americans are infected with HIV, but as many as 20 percent of them don't know they carry the virus, according to the CDC. It can take a decade or more for an infection to cause symptoms and illness.
Since 2006, the CDC has recommended that all Americans ages 13 to 64 get tested at least once, not just those considered at highest risk: gay men and intravenous drug users.
On special occasions, health organizations have sent workers to some drugstores to offer HIV testing. This week, Walgreens ? the nation's largest chain of pharmacies ? is teaming with local health departments and AIDS groups to offer free HIV testing at stores in 20 cities.
But this CDC pilot program is different: It's an effort to train staff at the pharmacies to do the testing themselves, and perhaps make it a permanent service.
"I'm excited. It's such a new and novel thing for us," said Sarah Freedman, who manages a Walgreens in Washington, D.C., that is participating in the pilot program.
At her pharmacy, the testing is done in a private room. They've also taken steps to make sure that a customer can very quietly request the test. For example, they've put out stacks of special test request cards ? they look like business cards ? at George Washington University and other nearby businesses. Anyone seeking a test can simply hand the card to the clerk, she said.
Only three or four customers have gone through with a test in the first few weeks.
"We get a lot of questions," she said. "Usually they get the information and they go and sit on it and think about it."
There's a second Walgreens in Washington offering the test, as well as branches in Chicago and Lithonia, Ga. Other test sites: East Pines Pharmacy in Riverdale, Md., Mike's Pharmacy in Oakland, Calif. and a federal Indian Health Service location in Billings, Mont.
Each of the locations will get enough tests to check 200 to 300 people.

Move over Ban Ki-moon, the corporate money men are in town. That was the message from the final hours of the otherwise damp-squib Earth Summit in Rio de Janiero last week.
On Friday, as delegates prepared to go home, UN officials toured the halls explaining why the official declaration struck by government delegations earlier in the week, titled The World We Want, was so devoid of concrete commitments to fight planetary perils and injustice.
"We can't legislate sustainable development in the current state of international relations," said Achim Steiner, head of the UN Environment Programme. There was no political leadership, and hence no political commitment to protect the oceans, and only platitudes where there should be schemes to uplift the poor and create a green economy.
But despite the political void, the organisers could still claim a major success. Corporations, who were largely absent from the first Earth Summit in Rio 20 years ago, were coming to the table, Steiner said. Where politicians shrank from commitments, corporations were overflowing with them.
The conference secretary-general Sha Zukang said some 1500 business leaders had attended the summit, and had stumped up half a trillion dollars of corporate cash to fund various UN agendas, though it was unclear how much of this was new money and how much was simply mainstream corporate investment.
Among the new corporate actors at the heart of UN policymaking on the green agenda is Chad Holliday, chairman of the Bank of America and former president of DuPont. He is now also co-chair of the Sustainable Energy For All initiative led by UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon that aims to unlock private investment to deliver its eponymous pledge by 2030. The initiative would be "the greatest public-private partnership of all time", Holliday said at the summit.
Ban's energy plan, which was heavily promoted by UN officials throughout the conference, aims to connect 1.3 billion people to electricity and end the reliance of more than 2 billion people on lung-damaging charcoal and firewood for cooking. It also has targets for doubling the contribution of sustainable sources to world energy, and improving energy efficiency.
Business had already pledged $50 billion, said Holliday's co-chair of the initiative, Kandeh Yumkella, director-general of the UN Industrial Development Organization: "More than a billion people will benefit." Business too, agreed Holliday. "Companies are here because they see opportunities."
The energy plan is seen within the UN as a prototype for achieving the kind of sustainable development goals that the conference agreed should be drawn up in the next three years. Ban said that in future "business leaders [are] to be part of the creation and promotion of new sustainable development goals."
The conference could not agree on what the goals should cover, but topics are likely to include food, water supply and transport. The Asian Development Bank, along with seven other development banks, announced that in the coming decade it hopes to mastermind public and private investment of $175 billion on greener transport systems in developing countries, including railways, buses and more fuel-efficient vehicles.
For many here, the future of the UN's activity in promoting sustainable development looks less like a coalition of national governments driven by common goals, and more like a series of corporate initiatives.
Tim Wirth, a veteran US environmental policymaker who now heads the UN Foundation, which aims to link up the UN system with business, told a press conference that this new world order was on view already. "Public-private partnerships are the dominant theme here in Rio," he told a press conference. "The official document is less important."

I have been scrapbooking?for nearly 8 years and I have one person to thank for that, my good friend Nat. When I was teaching year 1 I taught her daughter and she asked me along to one of her workshops. I had a ball and became hooked. I started with my wedding album, which then led into Oscar?s baby album and there was no turning back. A few years ago Nat and her family decided to move to Adelaide. I joined another consultant and she encouraged me to become a Creative Memories consultant. Well after lots of thought I agreed.
It is perfect, I get the latest products, I make a little extra money (which normally pays for my scrapbooking), I do what I love ? teach and be creative, I get to socialise and share. Best of all I get to scrapbook. I host monthly workshops in the evenings, all day/night workshops and we like to have a bit of fun on Melbourne Cup day and other special days. I also have started to host kid?s workshops in the school holidays. This has been a big hit!

If you give your wife a compliment, she?ll smile and remember how good you make her feel.
When she remembers how good you make her feel, she will go to work with a little pep in her step.
If she has a little pep in her step, she will be more apt to be in a good mood and get her work done accordingly.
By being satisfactory at work, she will get kudos from her boss and she will remember this day as a good day.
Knowing she?s having a good day will carry her all the way home, where she will encounter the husband who gave her the compliment.
When she encounters the husband who gave her a compliment, she will greet him warmly and they will have a great evening.
If they have a great evening, she will go to bed happy. And he will go to bed happy. *wink*
And everyone will be happy.
See, I don?t think husbands realize their power in the household. A simple word of encouragement, a surprise hug or a phone call during the day to simply say, ?I appreciate you? goes so far with a woman. In one of my earlier posts, ?Sometimes a Man Just Needs to Hear,??I wrote:
We all want that validation that our spouse *sees* us, that they understand that what we do every day is not easy, but they appreciate us making that effort. Don?t get so caught up in the day-to-day business that you miss out on little opportunities to connect.
I was talking about husbands in that instance, but it?s true for women especially. There?s nothing more pertinent than making sure everything is running smoothly in your marriage and it starts with our words. Fellas, try one of these on for size:
?I love that dress on you, baby.? Bet you she?ll pull it out whenever she wants to feel pretty.
?That was some of the best {insert food here} I ever tasted.? Wipe your mouth for effect. Bet you she?ll walk with an extra strut in her step.
?Honey, why don?t you head on out and take a couple hours for yourself? I?ll take care of the kids. You work really hard. You deserve a break.? She?ll zoom out of the house so fast it?ll make your head spin. But when she gets back, she?ll be looking for a way to return the favor.
So remember: Dip your tongue in honey before you speak to your wife. It?s the first step in creating a happy home.
Ladies, what?s the best compliment you?ve ever received? What words or phrases from your spouse will make your whole day?

Wahoo! It?s the summertime and you?re going to more parties, hosting more bbqs, attending more weddings and just enjoying the sunny weather outdoors. And with that, you?re most likely enjoying a few more laughs?oh yea, and more cocktails, beers, or glasses of wine as well (is anyone opting for more water?!). And even though you may not understand how alcohol affects your overall health, the truth of the matter is alcohol has no positive health qualities. I know, I know?please try your best not to roll your eyes at me!
How are white wine, light beer, and even agave tequila all alike? Each of these bevs (along with all other alcoholic bevs) contains alcohol, and the alcohol is the key problem. Did you know that your body processes alcohol first, before fat, protein, or carbs? Therefore, drinking slows down the burning of fat. Like this fact, there are quite a few more facts about alcohol and how it affects your body and I feel that right now is the perfect time to spell them out. And yes, it has been claimed that drinking red wine may have health benefits, but I?d like to focus on the cons of alcohol?let?s take a few moments and learn together:
1. Empty Calories: Sugar, also known as an empty calorie, has 4 calories per gram, providing no nutrition. Alcohol, also another empty calorie, is almost double the calories per gram (7 calories)?yes, double. So if you?re drinking a rum and Coke, you?re drinking all the sugar, all the empty calories, and no nutrition. No nutrition? Yes, that is correct because alcohol lacks proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals needed to maintain healthy body functions.
Alcohol can lead to weight gain from the calories it provides and by causing you to eat more calories after drinking the alcohol (late night munchies anyone?) ? a double whammy weight gain effect! It is even possible to drink as many calories as you eat! That being said, alcohol will significantly interfere with your weight loss goal. And, overconsumption can even lead to malnutrition.
2. Nutrient absorption: According to http://www.bouldermedicalcenter.com/articles/Alcohol_Nutrition.htm,
alcohol inhibits the absorption of several nutrients: vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, and folic acid. This website states that the process of metabolizing alcohol requires nutrients. As the liver decreases its supply of these nutrients, the blood stream is called upon to replenish the supply. As a result, body cells are deprived of critical nutrients and normal body functions suffer. Note to self, please.
3. Hormones: Not something you think about when it comes to alcohol, right? Here?s the science-y scoop?consuming alcohol will actually impede with glucose function in your body and with the actions of regulatory hormones (insulin and glucagon). Regardless if you are well-nourished, alcohol may disturb blood sugar levels, especially if it is combined with a sugary drink. This is because alcohol increases insulin secretion (pulls more than enough blood sugar out of the bloodstream), which causes temporary hypoglycemia. Therefore, alcohol consumption can be especially harmful in people with a predisposition to hypoglycemia, such as patients who are being treated for diabetes.
4. Immune system: Yes, alcohol has a direct affect on your immunity. Acute or chronic use damages cellular immunity. It decreases antioxidant levels by increasing free radicals, which contributes to chronic systematic inflammation. In simple turns, alcohol is viewed as a threat to the body, causing it to have an inflammatory response, which damages many body tissues.
5. Nervous system: Do you wonder why a few drinks make you ?tipsy?, slur your words, impair your walking, etc? It is because alcohol alters the normal activity of your nervous system and can disturb or kill neurons, the cells that transmit and process signals in the brain and various other parts of the nervous system.

2106: The English are definitely enjoying the better of the early proceedings and look threatening going forward. Both Roy Hodgson and Cesare Prandelli have spent time in their technical areas barking out instructions to the their players but you would expect it is Hodgson who is the happier with the start to the game.
___
2100: Another great chance for England. Johnson swings an inviting cross into the penalty area from the right and Rooney bends his run to meet the delivery, but he flicks his diving header well over the bar under pressure from a defender.
___
2058: England seems to be encouraged by that chance from Johnson, with Wayne Rooney breaking away down the left to force a corner. The Italians clear the imminent pressure but the ball is crossed back into the center and, after an unorthodox punch away from Buffon, Parker drills the ball wide from outside the penalty area.
___
2052: And now it's England's turn to go close. England works the ball down the right and Milner delivers a low cross into the penalty area and after a couple of deflections, it lands between the feet of Johnson. The right back eventually gets his shot away and it seems destined for the back of the net from close range but Buffon makes a splendid save, clawing the ball up in the air and catching the rebound.
___
2050: So close! De Rossi sends a left-footed shot on the bounce crashing off the post. The ball is pulled back to the midfield man who, with the outside of his boot, sends a shot swerving onto the face of the left post from 25 yards, with an outstretched Hart in the England goal comprehensively beaten. Early letoff for Roy Hodgson's side.
___
2045: And the match gets underway, with Italy, in blue, kicking off.

2030: For England, Ashley Cole, Steven Gerrard, Ashley Young, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all a yellow card away from missing a potential semifinal clash against Germany. For Italy, goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is joined on the list of bookings by Fedricio Balzaretti, Mario Balotelli, Daniele De Rossi, Riccardo Montolivo and Leonardo Bonucci.
___
2020: So Mario Balotelli starts for Italy against three of his Manchester City teammates in the England side: Joe Hart, Joleon Lescott and James Milner. England are unchanged from the side that beat Ukraine 1-0 in the last Group D match. That means Wayne Rooney partners Danny Welbeck in attack, with Andy Carroll and Theo Walcott starting on the substitutes' bench.
___
1950: Italy forward Mario Balotelli returns to the starting lineup to face an unchanged England team. Balotelli is selected ahead of Antonio Di Natale. Defender Giorgio Chiellini injured his left hamstring against the Irish and his Juventus teammate Leonardo Bonucci continues to fill in. Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has opted for Riccardo Montolivo in midfield over Thiago Motta.
___
1945: Here are the lineups:
England: Joe Hart, Ashley Cole, Glen Johnson, Joleon Lescott, John Terry, Steven Gerrard, James Milner, Scott Parker, Ashley Young, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck.

Doctors performed a coronary catheterization, which determined that Eusebio had not had a heart attack but merely complications from poor health. "I had the chance to speak to him this morning and asked him whether his heart hurt at all," Rusek told The Associated Press. "He smiled and said, 'not at all,' and that shows that this morning he was in good form."

Update: HTC has confirmed that this is in fact just a joke, and they're not working on voice control tech for dogs or humans.
Original: The Galaxy S III might be "designed for humans," but HTC has just published photographic evidence of what seems to be an attempt to court the canine smartphone market. The manufacturer posted the image above on its official Facebook page, showing the HTC One X chatting it up with an unusually smartphone literate dog.
OK, so HTC probably isn't going into the field of animal behaviorology anytime soon, which means this is likely a not-so-subtle hint that HTC is set to join LG, Samsung and Apple in launching its own voice assistant app (OK, a Siri clone). Based on the image above, it looks like HTC's app will be able to manage appointments (such as walkies) and other general queries, much like Apple and Samsung's offerings. The big question will be how well the app's voice recognition features actually work, as we found this to be a major sticking point for S Voice, the Galaxy S III's voice control effort.
In any case, we'll be interested to see what HTC comes up with in this area, and how much of its Sense UI it's able to augment with the new voice-controlled tech.

BELLEFONTE, Pa. (AP) ? Jurors in Jerry Sandusky's child sex abuse trial listened again to testimony from a key prosecution witness Friday as they began their second day of deliberations in the former Penn State assistant football coach's high-profile case.
The jury deliberated for more than eight hours Thursday before adjourning at the end of a long session that featured dueling portrayals of Sandusky as a "predatory pedophile" or the victim of a conspiracy between investigators and his accusers.
Sandusky is accused of sexually abusing 10 boys over a 15-year period, using his charity for at-risk youth, The Second Mile, as a source of victims who would be dazzled by gifts, grateful for his attention and ? perhaps most importantly ? unlikely to speak up.
Sandusky has repeatedly denied the allegations. The defense portrayed him as the hapless victim of a conspiracy to convict him of heinous crimes. They explain the 48 charges against him as the result of an investigatory team out for blood and accusers who willingly played along in hopes of securing a big payday.
Judge John Cleland said jurors would take a couple of hours Friday to listen again to testimony from Mike McQueary and Dr. Jonathan Dranov. The testimony was being read out loud from transcripts.
McQueary told the court he saw Sandusky engaging in a sex act with a young boy in a Penn State shower in 2001. Dranov later testified that McQueary told him a different version of the story that didn't include the then-graduate assistant seeing sexual contact.
However, McQueary testified that he hadn't told Dranov all that he saw.
Shortly after the jury began deliberations Thursday, attorneys for Sandusky's 33-year-old adopted son, Matt, dropped a bombshell, saying he'd been sexually abused by the former coach and had been prepared to testify against him if called to the stand.
Sequestered during deliberations, the jury was under orders from Cleland to ponder only the case placed in their hands.
The jury heard from eight accusers who claim Sandusky engaging in sexual contact ranging from kissing and fondling to forced oral or anal sex.
One testified he felt at times like Sandusky's son, at others his "girlfriend."
A second accuser ? a foster child at the time authorities say he was abused ? said Sandusky threatened he would never see his biological family again if he told anyone he was forced to perform sex acts but later took it back and claimed to love him.
One accuser testified to receiving what he called "creepy love letters" from Sandusky. "I know that I have made my share of mistakes," read one handwritten note. "However, I hope that I will be able to say that I cared. There has been love in my heart."
The defense said the longwinded letters were simply the manifestation of a personality disorder characterized by excessive emotionality and attention seeking.
Two people who prosecutors say were sexually abused by Sandusky haven't been identified. McQueary's testimony is the basis for charges involving one of those alleged victims.
It was also McQueary's testimony that touched off the massive scandal that rocked Penn State and forced a re-examination of the role of college administrators in reporting abuse allegations.
Sandusky has denied the allegations, but did not testify in his own defense. Jurors are aware, however, of the denials he gave "Rock Center" just after his arrest. In it, Sandusky seemed to stumble at times and struggled to give direct answers to questions about his conduct.
Asked if he was sexually attracted to boys, Sandusky told NBC's Bob Costas: "Sexually attracted, you know, I, I enjoy young people. I, I love to be around them. ... No, I'm not sexually attracted to young boys."
Senior Deputy Attorney General Joseph McGettigan III seized on that in closing arguments, saying: "I would think that the automatic response, if someone asks you if you're a criminal, a pedophile, a child molester, or anything along those lines, would be: 'You're crazy. No. Are you nuts?'"
Prosecutors said Sandusky used gifts and the allure of Penn State's vaunted football program to attract and abuse vulnerable boys who came from troubled homes, often ones without a father figure in the house.
"What you should do is come out and say to the defendant that he molested and abused and give them back their souls," McGettigan told jurors. "I give them to you. Acknowledge and give them justice."
Defense attorney Joe Amendola argued that Sandusky was targeted by investigators who coached accusers into making false claims about a generous man whose charity gave them much-needed love.
"So out of the blue (after) all these years, when Jerry Sandusky is in his mid-50s, he decides to become a pedophile? Does that make sense to anybody?" Amendola asked rhetorically.
The jury, which includes nine people with ties to Penn State, had already begun deliberating when Matt Sandusky's attorneys issued a statement alleging that Sandusky abused one of his six adopted children.
"During the trial, Matt Sandusky contacted us and requested our advice and assistance in arranging a meeting with prosecutors to disclose for the first time in this case that he is a victim of Jerry Sandusky's abuse," Andrew Shubin and Justine Andronici said in the statement. "At Matt's request, we immediately arranged a meeting between him and the prosecutors and investigators.
"This has been an extremely painful experience for Matt and he has asked us to convey his request that the media respect his privacy. There will be no further comment."
Matt Sandusky went to live with Sandusky and his wife as a foster child and was adopted by them as an adult.
Shortly after Jerry Sandusky's arrest, Matt Sandusky's ex-wife went to court to keep her former father-in-law away from their three young children. Jill Jones successfully obtained a restraining order forbidding the children from sleeping over at their grandparents' home.
Around the same time, details emerged that Matt Sandusky had attempted suicide just four months after first going to live with the couple in 1995. He had come into the home through The Second Mile.
Shortly after the suicide attempt, Sandusky's probation officer wrote, "The probation department has some serious concerns about the juvenile's safety and his current progress in placement with the Sandusky family," according to court records supplied to The Associated Press by his birth mother, Debra Long.
Despite those concerns, probation and child welfare officials recommended continued placement with the Sandusky family, and the judge overseeing his case agreed.
During testimony last week, an accuser known as Victim 4 said Matt Sandusky was living at the Sandusky home at the time he stayed there overnight and testified that Jerry Sandusky came into the shower with the two boys and "started pumping his hand full of soap." Matt Sandusky shut off the shower and left, appearing nervous, the witness said.

What the authors say: ?[Oriole Park] merges the charm of a classic old-time ball yard with the comfort and convenience made possible by modernity. That [is] its genius, which may not seem so revolutionary today, but it was when it opened?.?
Learned from the book:
? Although many fans just call the park Camden Yards, the full title was meant as a compromise between two groups of officials. One group preferred Oriole Park, the home of the city?s 19th -century National League team; the other group liked Camden Yards, the name of the railroad center that once occupied the site.
? The B&O warehouse, the landmark railroad building that forms the ballpark?s signature backdrop in right field, took as long to restore ? three years ? as it took to build the stadium.
? The Orioles offer perhaps the best behind-the-scenes ballpark tour in the majors. It lasts two hours. When the authors took it they counted 23 mentions of architect Janet Marie Smith, who went on to lead the recently completed 10-year renovation of Boston?s Fenway Park.
? Camden Yards has been such a popular destination that attendance reached the 50 million mark faster than at any other park in history. Sadly for the Orioles, the fans of visiting teams sometimes seem to outnumber (or at least out-yell) the locals. This year?s team, which is looking to snap a 14-season losing streak, has thus far generated newfound enthusiasm among the faithful.
? For reasons that aren?t clear, John Denver?s ?Thank God I?m a Country Boy? has become the team?s popular seventh-inning anthem.
